A wax pencil is an excellent tool for scrapbooking to use with photographs. Wax pencils can also be used for writing on glass and plastics. The soft, acid free and colored wax is used for tracing designs on to glass or photographs as the wax can be rubbed off once the tracing is done. Wax pencils have many other uses when it comes to scrapbook embellishments and comes in handy when something is needed to be written on scrapbook layouts without making it permanent.

Wax pencils are also used for coloring letters and borders of scrapbook layout. Let’s have a look at how to make use of a wax pencil when scrapbooking.

Firstly, you need to select the wax pencil you prefer.

You may also want to have a few wax pencils for creating a more variety of colors on your photographs. Usually, blue is noticed as the most popular wax pencil color among the scrapbooking community. You can search the internet for wax pencils and to find out if they will be available at your local crafts store as well.

Select your favorite photograph for your scrapbook album and cut it in the shape you prefer.

You may also want to cut individuals out of your photographs and stick them on to your scrapbook layout.

Now, using the wax pencil, draw the design or the shape that you want to cut out onto the front of your photograph.

This need to be done carefully as otherwise, the wrong portion may be cut out of the photographs. Anyway, you can make mistakes while drawing the design because wax on the front of the photograph can be wiped off easily. Who don’t make mistakes, after all?

Using a sharp scissor cut out the design that you just marked using the wax pencil.

You need to be cautious when cutting, as you need to cut along the wax line with no deviations. Otherwise, your final product will not be attractive as you expect.

Next step is to wipe off the remnants of the wax line smoothly.

Scrapbooking

Once the design is cut out, there can be more wax remaining on the edges of the design and I’m sure that will make things looks ugly. Take a tissue or a paper towel for wiping the edges and to make it look nicer. As mentioned earlier, wax on the front side of the photograph should come off easily as wax pencils are manufactured to do just that!

Now you can label the photograph on its back using the wax pencil. This mark will not come off easily as it did on the front of the photo as this will be permanent. Now you can stick your photo on to the scrapbook album or on any embellishment. A lot of tiny photos pasted in this manner actually makes the scrapbook album attractive.

There are many other uses of wax pencils. It is mainly made for temporary markings for cutting purposes. However, wax pencils are usually priced between $5 and $20 and relatively expensive compared to the other material used for scrapbooking.
