First of all, select a color of your choice which goes with your scrapbook album theme. Then you need to select three papers which have three shades of the selected color. Buying papers of different shades from the same color is not difficult at all. Go to your local supermarket or the crafts store and you will find many colors and many shades. Your shades should be able to be differentiated easily, so select a light, dark and a medium shade.

The paper with the middle shade will be the design for your scrapbook while the dark paper will be the shadow of the design and the light paper will become the highlights of the design. This way, you can experiment around with different colors by creating many designs that has shadows and highlights. The main rule in the process however, is to let your mind run free!

The second method actually involves painting. In this method, you can paint your scrapbook layouts using any object other than the regular paint brush. Yes, that’s what faux painting is all about. There are many objects that you can use to apply paint. Each of the objects will create a different design and a texture on your scrapbook layouts which will be unique. There are two main aspects of faux painting; texture and color. Although the color is the same for any object, the texture will differ and that’s another rule!

For an example, you can use one of your old socks or towel as the object to apply paint to your scrapbook. The design that is made by the sock is very different to the design made by the towel.
