Whenever we think about tinting, what directly comes in to our minds is shutter tinting of vehicles. This tinting is done usually by pasting a dark, transparent and thin film onto the glass. This way, the entire glass is tinted. Now we understand the basic function of tinting.

When it comes to photograph tint, there are two popular ways; tinting using a computer and tinting in a color lab where photo films are developed. In terms of scrapbooking, these two methods of tinting are mostly out of reach as there is a significant amount of cost and effort involved. Therefore, let’s talk about a method that can be used for tinting photographs without using a computer.

Tinting is mostly used for adding a touch on black and white photographs as it creates a better effect on black and white rather than on color. There are many ways you can tint the photograph; you can tint the entire photograph if you wish. Or else, you can tint only a certain portion of the photographs where you would like to get others attention more. As an example, you have a family photograph in black and white. The scrapbook album you create is about you and you want to get other’s attention to you in the photograph. Then, you can tint yourself in the photograph.

Another way to tint a photo is to add colors to black and white photos. Quite frequently you may find black and white photographs boring and you may wish that they were color photos. Now it’s the time for converting black and white photos to color by tinting them. For this, you can use multiple colors as required.

One thing you should keep in mind when coloring is the theme of your scrapbook album. Whenever we embellish the scrapbook, we need to align the colors with the theme colors to come up with a complete look.

The Easy way to add a Tint to a Photo

For tinting photos as described above, there is a special product called Photo Twin pen or Photo Twin markers. These pens are manufactured under many brand names and it is up to you to go for a good one. Please read the reviews in the internet and magazines about different brands before you make your purchase.

There are a few tips to follow when using Photo Twin markers. Usually matte finished photographs will accept the tint color more than a glossy finished surface. Therefore, select the depth of the tint color based on the nature of the photo surface.

Taking Care of Your Layout theme - some hints

When tinting the photo, do not go over the same spot few times as that spot will be darkened than the rest of the area and will look ugly on your scrapbook layout. In case of you wanting an entire photo to be darkened from tint, add the tint color as layers. Firstly, color the entire surface once and let the ink dry off. Then go with the second round to make the photo tint darker. You can exercise this as many times as required until you get the tint you want.

If you need to highlight a fine area of the photo by tint, then always use a fine brush for this purpose. If the entire photo is tinted, a larger brush tip can be used.
