Once you come up with a reason and theme for your scrapbook album, your next challenge
will be the arrangement or the organization of the scrapbook. Since designing layouts
and embellishments were so much fun, you might totally forget the organization part.
Most of the scrapbooks that you have ever come across may have been ordered in chronological
order. But can you think of any alternative method of organizing your scrapbook
to add in a different flavor to it?
So here we go! Let’s discuss about a few other possible ways to organize your scrapbook
album.
Choosing a method for scrapbook organization is entirely a personal choice and there
can be a lot of parameters involved in this choice. One of the main things that
you should consider when choosing an organization method is the easiness to find
a particular layout when you want, at a later day. If you can’t find what you are
looking for within a matter of seconds, or if you don’t have any idea of where certain
layouts are, then your scrapbook has no order!
Organizing the scrapbook album by category (such as family, friends, school, basketball
etc) is one of the most popular ways of organizing. Most people choose this option
over chronological method when they feel that chronological order is too linear
for their expression. With this approach, you can define few categories for your
scrapbooks and then complete them individually. The reason for this approach is
that you may have so much to say about each subject and if they were put in together;
your scrapbook album might not make any sense.
Let’s take an example. You have a few children and you want to maintain a scrapbook
for them on their childhood. One fine day if you want them to have layouts from
this scrapbook to remind them of their childhood, you will face a practical problem.
What if the same layout is demanded by all of your children? The simple technique
to avoid this is to maintain separate sections of the scrapbook for each child.
Organizing your scrapbook albums by theme is another popular method used by scrapbook
creators and it is a relatively a new trend. As examples, love, friendship, spirituality
are some of the most popular scrapbook themes. Let’s take another example, imagine
that you have three photos where your mother, you and your daughter are playing
the same piano when all of you were the same age. Now you want to put these three
photos in one layout. For this, chronological order or order by subject will not
help. So you will have to go by the theme.
If any of these methods do not satisfy your requirement of organizing the scrapbook,
then you have another solution as well. You can have a hybrid approach to scrapbook
organization. For example, you can have scrapbooks for different themes such as
love, spirituality, etc. and have layouts dedicated for each family member. In this
approach we use the methods, categories by theme and people by category, together.
Let’s assume none of these techniques really work for you. Then here comes the final
solution; buy an album with a three ring binding closure. This way you can rearrange
the layouts as you want at any point of time. Whenever you feel like that your scrapbook
organization needs to be changed, it is just a matter of shuffling the layouts of
the scrapbook album to fit your needs!
