A unique magnifying effect for your Scrapbooks
- Simply using glass marbles and a bit of imagination!
If you want to relive the magic of your childhood, there’s no better way of doing
it than adding glass marbles to your scrapbook album.
Remember those good old days when you held colorful glass marbles against the sun?
Or those summer afternoons where you played marble games with friends? So while
you try to embellish your treasured scrapbook album, you can do many things with
glass marbles to add magic in to your creation.
What Supplies do I need?
Be extra careful if you are cutting marbles.
Here’s what you need for your project. A tube of clear drying glue, glass marbles,
a scissor, a hack saw (in case you want to cut the marble in two) and a colorful
scrapbook layout.
How do I add it to my Scrapbook Layout?
Ideally, you will need half marbles (also known as flat backed marbles) and transparent
drying glue like UHU. Now carefully apply glue on the flat side of the marbles and
place them carefully on the picture you created. If you are using multi color marbles,
you ought to watch out for the color combinations of the underlying picture and
the marbles you are attaching on top of it. If the marbles you have chosen are plain
white or any plain color for that matter, then it’s just a matter of carefully placing
them on top of your picture. Once your whole scrapbook layout is covered with marbles,
you will see a magical magnifying effect added to your picture.
 | Our experiment number one will deal with adding a magnifying effect to an existing
picture or text that’s printed or embossed on the scrapbook layout. For the sake
of an example, let’s assume that you created a picture of the sea bed with all sorts
of creatures and sea-weeds. The picture could be either a paper appliqué or a drawing.
Your next mission is to add a magnifying effect to it so that it will look real. |
Of course, it is a personal choice whether to keep the picture clear or a little
shaken up. So let your hands do the work as your creativity instructs.
An Alternative Scrapbook Idea
As your second experiment, you could come up with a themed scrapbook layout of a
portrait, a greetings page with texts and pictures. Supposing that your scrapbook
layout is a dedication for someone, you could use the following tips to make it
look elegant and unique.
- Paste the picture(s) wherever it fits.
- Include the texts – a poem, a dedication, a short
story etc.
- Come up with a colorful border. Using glittery gel
pens is a great way to add borders to this kind of project. Adding sequin here and
there along the border will also help you with the glass marble theme you are after.
- Once you are done with the basic scrapbook layout,
find pebble shaped glass marbles.
- Place them over texts that you’d like to be seen as
highlighted. Try out different colors of glass marbles before you glue them down.
- Choose the most suitable colors to match your theme
while adding a contrasting effect to the texts you want to highlight.
- When you are decided on exactly what to do; use transparent
drying glue to paste the glass marble(s) over the texts.

Can you figure out the picture lying
beneath?

Messing around with marbles is not only fun but it is also quite easy. You could
probably finish embellishing your scrapbook layout within minutes if you have an
idea of what to look out for. So why wait? Hurry and grab those glass marbles to
re-live the magic!
